AIMuno and the Roche innovation incubator start working together

Healthcare solutions company Roche Latvija has signed an agreement with AIMuno, the first start-up supported by the Roche Innovation Incubator. The joint project will research the use of artificial intelligence to improve the effectiveness of lung cancer treatment.

AIMuno’s goal is to create a biomarker that uses artificial intelligence to process patient data and predict the likely effectiveness of immunotherapy in different patient groups, in order to choose further treatment.

“Within the project we plan to study the morphology and genetics of lung cancer samples to find out whether patients can benefit from immunotherapy, which helps the immune system identify and destroy tumour cells,” explains Vismands Menjoks, board member of AIMuno.

“We still need to understand why only around 20% of patients respond to immunotherapy, and to identify precisely those patients who will benefit from this type of treatment,” says Valērija Kogana, co-founder of SmartOmica and board member of AIMuno.

The pharmaceutical industry could go on to use the solution as companion diagnostics, to recommend the best therapies and the most effective use of medicines. Diagnostics companies could also use it to study patient samples and give doctors more personalised treatment recommendations.
