Laima’s new production facility in Ādaži has been commissioned

Almost a month ahead of the planned construction schedule, Laima’s new production facility was commissioned on 16 March. It allows the company not only to make its best-loved sweets in a modern environment, but also opens broad opportunities for cooperation with other Orkla group companies.

“The modern Laima facility consists of five buildings – a two-storey production building and several buildings for technical needs. The total area is 7,820 m². The highest quality materials were selected and used in construction to meet the client’s goal of building an energy-efficient and safe facility to the highest quality standards. One of the biggest challenges in the project was the engineering systems. They are extensive, labour-intensive and adapted to the four different temperature and humidity regimes required by the confectionery production process. Although the building may look simple from the outside, its infrastructure is complex and digitalised as far as possible. The facility has also been awarded an A energy efficiency class,” says Mihails Peščinskis, project manager at Merks.

“Building Laima’s new home gave us a unique opportunity to create a building adapted to the production technology rather than the other way around. That is exactly what we set out to do, following every production flow. Production will be efficient and precise, guaranteeing product quality. It will also be functional and comfortable for the more than 100 people working at the plant. These are working conditions of an entirely different level, and we cannot wait to show them to our employees,” emphasises Toms Didrihsons, chairman of the board of Orkla Latvija.
